Steff and Ste’s Liverpool wedding at Christ church, Bootle and Hard Days Night hotel…
Steff and Ste’s wedding saw my return to fabulous beatles inspired Hard Days Night hotel here in Liverpool almost a year to the day.
We started the day at Steff’s parents house in Crosby before setting off on the ‘Magical Mystery Bus’ to the spectacular Christ Church in Bootle for their wedding service. The weather was not on our side so we made our way straight to Hard Days Night for the rest of the celebrations.
Steff, Ste and their guests had a relaxed and fun day to a beatles backtrack and had their first dance performed by a beatles tribute band.
Here are just a few of my favorite photos from their day…
Jess and Jay’s striking winter wedding in Halifax…

Last weekend saw me returning to my home county of Yorkshire to photograph Jess and Jay’s wedding in Halifax. I’ve known Jess’s father for several years through my commercial photography work and it was a real honor that he recommended me to shoot something as important as his daughters wedding.
I took in instant like to Jess and Jay they are such a friendly, couple and I share many interests with them so knew Saturday was going to be a blast – I wasn’t wrong! I was made so welcome, I felt like a guest with a camera than a hired professional.
Jess is my first bride with red hair, I do hope she’s not the last, she looked amazing!

James and Elizabeth’s Manchester wedding

James and Elizabeth’s delightful winter wedding saw me back in Manchester this weekend.
We had a lovely day starting with Elizabeth’s bridal preparations at the City Inn Manchester before heading out to the spectacular St. John the Evangelist cathedral for their service.
We came out of St. John’s to be greeted by the forecast torrential rain not that James and Elizabeth were going to let that dampen their spirits or put a hold on the planned shoot around the industrial area near the Castlefield rooms where they were having their wedding breakfast. I love photographing winter weddings, they bring many challenges but so rewarding with their distinctive rich look.

Sarah and Stuart’s Liverpool engagement photos

Sarah and Stuart are a great couple who are so easy to get on with which made for such fun during their engagement shoot. Sarah and Stuart are wedding photographers themselves, its especially flattering when our peers choose us to capture such important events as this.
Engagement sessions are great, they get couples used to being in front of a camera prior to the big day.
After looking at their photographs I received this lovely email from them…
“We are soooo pleased with the engagement pictures you took for us. We were really nervous at first but you put us at ease straight away and we really did have a great time – it was so much fun! We both look so happy and in love which is exactly what we knew you’d capture for us. We want them all on our wall! Your eye for detail and talent has produced so many wonderful pieces of timeless art that we are soooo proud to own. We can’t thank you enough for all you have done and the memories you have captured. We can’t wait for the wedding pictures now!!! Thanks again Rob – you are a true professional, an amazing photographer and now also a good friend.”
I’m really looking forward to photographing the UK leg of their New York wedding next Autumn, it promises to be a great day.

Nick and Cath’s wedding at the Marble Church, Bodelwyddan

I’ve been really looking forward to Nick and Cath’s wedding at the stunning Marble Church, Bodelwyddan last weekend ever since their engagement shoot in Frodsham last year. Lou and I have met Nick and Cath on several occasions and they are such a lovely couple this weekend felt more like being a guest at a friends wedding than a hired professional.
We started the day in a relaxed way at Faenol Fawr Hotel where Nick and Cath were both getting ready prior to the main event. A super chilled morning that was great fun to watch and photograph.
Then on to the marble church for the ceremony before returning to Faenol Fawr Hotel for the wedding breakfast where Nick and Cath were set to party into the night.
I was greeted by an email in my in box the next day from Cath saying,
“Just a quick (champers-filled) note to thank you so much for yesterday, for the obvious part of effort beyond the call of duty but just for being your usual understated self and getting the pics you want with the minimum of fuss” this was so kind to make this effort the day after her wedding and is typical of Cath.
They are currently honeymooning in Santorini, have a great time guys and I’ll see you both soon.

Andrew and Sian’s wedding, Rhoscolyn, Anglesey

I really enjoyed shooting Andrew and Sian’s wedding this weekend in beautiful Rhoscolyn, Holyhead, North Wales. A really friendly couple which was reflected in their friends and family too.
The rustic church didn’t have the capacity for all their guests so some had to wait in the local pub instead.
Standing on the beach for the photograph above, Andrew said “Rob, we’d like one of those gold award winning images” so no pressure then
Andrew and Sian had a great live band playing which I enjoyed staying for, you can’t beat great music while you work!
They are currently on Honeymoon in South Africa but said they would be checking my blog when they found an internet connection. Have a great time guys and I’ll see you when you get back.

Carl and Victoria’s wedding at st Nicholas, Hale Village

I really enjoyed shooting Carl and Victoria’s wedding they are such a fun easy to get on with couple.
The weather threatened rain all day but luckily we didn’t see any, there was only got a light spattering later in the evening.
This was unusual in that they got married at st Nicholas in Hale Village but had arranged to take photographs at st Nicholas on Liverpool centre. We had great views of the city from st Nich’s and the nearby Arctic Hotel.
This was a lovely wedding and a pleasure to photograph.

Our wedding at Thornton Manor, Wirral…
I’ve been really touched by so many people asking me about Lou and I’s wedding on Monday and wishing us well I have decided to write a bit about it here.
My brides and grooms always pass comment on how quick the day goes so I was prepared and expected it to go fast but not this fast! They also tell me it was the best days of their lives and how fantastic it was, again we are no exception, nothing could have been any better – it was perfect!
As a photographer myself it’s really weird to be on the other side of a lens, one of the most repeated comments from my couples is “when did you take that? we never noticed you were there” this is important to me and something I strive to achieve even down the clothes I wear including the shoes that make no noise when I walk across wooden or stone floors. Our photographer was also low key and far less noticeable than guests with cameras, talking of which….
…We had requested guests leave their cameras at home and just enjoy the day, mainly because I know first hand how many shots are missed or ruined by people with their cameras by being totally unaware they have literally stepped in front of me. Professional wedding photographers wouldn’t bring a camera to a wedding they were a guest at anyway, mainly out of respect.
I won’t be able to post any of our official photographs here for copyright reasons, which is cool but I will be taking some ‘love my dress’ pictures with Lou which I will blog in the coming weeks. There is another account of our day from my good friend and fellow photographer Paul Thurlow you can see here.
Just back from a few days in Barcelona and now back in the UK ready for next weekends wedding. It was good to get back in the gym, I was having withdrawal symptoms having not been for a whole week, my fitness is important to me and the work I do.
Danny and Laura’s wedding at Sandburn Hall, York

This wedding saw me back in Yorkshire for a couple of days which according to Lou has recharged my accent. Sandburn Hall is a great location with friendy and helpful staff, its made a great backdrop for their wedding photography.
The ceremony was in front of the huge widows seen in the shot above which overlooked the golf course. The weather was perfect most of the day only turning stormy towards the end of the day when we had finished outside.
Danny and Laura are currently in Bali on their honeymoon, have a great time guys, see you soon.

Bryn and Hannah’s wedding at St Anthony of Padna, Liverpool

As a wedding photographer, I get to meet the nicest of people on their happiest of days and its both a pleasure and an honor. Bryn and Hannah had such a great day, it was a joy to capture their memories for them.
Leaving from ‘home’ Hannah spent the morning getting ready with her family and friends before making her way to St Anthony of Padna on Queens Drive, so close to my home this is one wedding I could have walked to!
Surprisingly, I’ve not shot in St Anthony’s before, I was most impressed by both the church itself and their relaxed, friendly attitude I hope to shoot more here.
From St Anthony’s we made our way to Sefton park for a few photos before heading to Villages for their reception and evening celebrations.
Bryn and Hannah are currently enjoying their honeymoon in Mexico, but emailed to say…
“Just thought I would drop you a line to say thank you for how amazing our wedding day was! You helped make it fantastic! We are having a fab time on our honeymoon!”

I believe, everyone's wedding should be an amazing fun filled day remembered by the photography not 'because' of it. With this in mind I have developed a unique approach to weddings that couples and their guests both love.
I have created my own mix of reportage, traditional, contemporary and fashion photography. Reportage photography captures the real emotion of real moments as they happen in a way a traditional photography style can't and has no impact on you or your guests, most of the time people are unaware of being photographed and this is why they have a quality unmatched by any other method of wedding photography. What I bring to the mix and what reportage alone lacks, is the magic and sparkle found in glossy fashion magazines.
My unique mix of styles creates stunning photographs for you to treasure forever, with little impact on the enjoyment of your wedding day.
